Oxford England

Oxford-EnglandOxford England

Oxford was a lovely little town.. It was on our route after leaving York. We got there in the evening and checked into our bed and breakfast that we had booked two nights before! We had everything set for lodging before we left for Europe except for our one night in Oxford… There were so many awesome places to stay in Oxford, but they were a bit out of budget and we just kept pushing this to the back burner… Until we were about to leave Edinburgh and realized we needed somewhere to stay! After much research Julia found a Bed and Breakfast for a great price! We were stoked and booked it right away. We weren’t exactly sure what to expect, but it was a nice little place… Very minimalistic, but charming! The shower was so small that you needed to turn off the water in order to soap up and then could turn it back on to rinse off! Ha ha. It was great… It’s always little quirky things that make places so memorable for me. The breakfast was also very delicious!

We had about a half of a day to wander around the lovely streets of this quaint town. We left our B&B and just began to wander. We had a end goal in mind of where to end up, but just meandered that way for a few hours taking in the beauty.

The buildings were exquisite! Everything looked like a piece to a castle! The lush greenery that hugged the river bank was magical. It would be lovely if every day could start with a stroll along a river in England. It was nice that while we walked the streets of Oxford it wasn’t very crowded… It made for a quite peaceful morning walk.

After a few hours of wandering we ended up at The Eagle and Child. A pub that Ryan had found while we were researching our trip. It was the common meeting place of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien – They would meet with their literary group to discuss literature and their works at the time. What an amazing thing.. To sit where such literary geniuses discussed the works that we are currently fascinated with! This is what I love so much about Europe – the rich history and culture. When wandering the streets of any of the older cities we have explored I am often struck with a constant feeling of wonder…

I would LOVE to be able to spend more time wandering around Oxford, England someday! Here are some photos from our afternoon in this lovely English town…
