Iceland Adventures
I had never really thought much about traveling to Iceland… I didn’t really know much about it and hadn’t really known anyone that had gone there before, BUT boy am I glad that we decided to fly Icelandair and tack on a few extra days on the end of our trip. It was an absolutely breathtaking place and we didn’t even see a small portion of the island. I must go back someday!!
If you had been following my travel posts then you know that prior to this destination we were in Oslo, Norway – from there were flew straight to Reykjavik, Iceland. For some reason or another we had all assumed that airport would be very close to the main area of Reykjavik… This was not the case and we didn’t realize it until we were on the plane. Turns out that the airport is actually 40 minutes or so from Reykjavik and were needed to figure out transportation to our hostel. This is always fun to figure out last minute on the last leg of your trip when you’ve spent almost 20 days gallivanting around Europe and you’re tired, have no clean cloths, and just want to get off the plane and get to a bed asap… BUT it did make for a fun adventure! We finally did figure out how to get to the city after wandering around the airport for awhile searching for the different options. However, all we did that first night was get to our hostel, which on the website says is a close walk to downtown Reykjavik… Their version of close is 45 minutes or so. I am always up for a nice walk, but when I hear short walk, I think 5/10 minutes maybe. Needless to say, when we got to our hostel all we had the energy for was to find a grocery store, get some food, and hang out for the evening!
Below are some images from our first day wandering around the city of Reykjavik… Ryan and I just wandered around the city.
We found this lovely coffee shop that we stopped at twice! It had an awesome vibe and delicious treats!
We are all about the food when we’re traveling!!! This taco place was AMAZING!
And don’t get me started on Crepes!!
One of our full days in Iceland we decided to be dorky tourists and joined in on a group excursion! If I had to do it again I would much rather have rented a car and went at our own pace. However, it was a nice way to see a bunch of things in a day! We saw glaciers, black sand beaches, churches on the hillside, and two different waterfalls! One that were were able to walk behind!!
Iceland really is a magically beautiful place! I have never been anywhere like it!
Don’t miss the other amazing destinations we visited on our recent travels
